PRT is an evidence-based psychological treatment that aims to change the brain's response to pain signals. It involves techniques designed to help the brain process and reinterpret body signals accurately, thereby reducing or eliminating the pain experience.
PRT in its entirety is used to treat neuroplastic pain. Although the majority of chronic pain is neuroplastic, you always want to check with your medical provider to ensure that your pain is not caused by a physical issue or disease. Our approach is especially effective for conditions where medical tests and imaging do not fully explain the pain or symptoms experienced. We have had success in reducing or even eliminating the symptoms experienced by patients suffering from:
Chronic Pain Disorders:
Vestibular Disorders:
Neurological & Systemic Conditions:
Other Symptoms & Conditions:
PRT can also treat "mixed pain", where a patient presents with both structural and neuroplastic symptoms. With all chronic symptoms, there is usually an added layer of suffering due to fear, anxiety, and body preoccupation causing an amplification of physical sensations beyond what is being caused by the structural issue alone.
Individual sessions are held virtually for 50 minutes each. The first step involves education about neuroplastic pain, helping you understand how the brain can learn to perceive pain even without physical injury. This understanding is crucial to reducing the fear and uncertainty surrounding pain. You will better understand why your symptoms persist and gain the necessary tools to overcome them. Clinicians will then help you break the pain-fear cycle using a variety of therapeutic modalities, including pain reprocessing. They will tailor their methods to meet your specific needs, delivering personalized care that best addresses your unique circumstances and challenges.
Clinician rates vary depending on professional background and experience, ranging between $165 - $250 per session.
We do not accept insurance directly. If you are working with an in-state therapist, a superbill will be provided to you. Otherwise, a receipt for coaching services will be provided for potential reimbursement.
We currently have an extended waitlist, but rest assured, we are in the process of hiring more therapists to meet the demand. We encourage you to join our waitlist so that we can contact you as soon as possible. Your healing is important to us, and we are committed to providing you with the care you need.
In our first PRT clinical trial, 98% of patients improved, and 66% were pain-free or nearly pain-free after eight sessions. Typically, you will see some movement or reduction in symptoms after 8-12 sessions. However, results vary. Some patients will have a reduction in symptoms right away, while others may need more time. Patience is a virtue - and time pressure is an added danger signal that may impede recovery!
Our providers include psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and certified life coaches who have all undergone extensive training in pain reprocessing.
Your initial consultation will be a 15-minute call during which you will meet an expert PRT provider who best fits your needs. During the call, your provider will gather some basic information about you and your pain and answer any questions you might have about our treatment approach to ensure you feel comfortable and confident moving forward.
